This year the fruit trees in our area have been fruitfull :)) We had so many wild pears and june berries in our pastures this summer. Our apple trees are not bearing much fruit yet but my folk’s apple trees were abundant with apples and they shared some with us. So far I have made several pies and a pan of apple crisp. I’m sharing my crisp recipe with you today.
6 cups tart apples, peeled, cored, sliced . I don’t always peel them…the skin will cook through and you won’t even know it’s there.
1 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cup uncooked old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup cold butter
Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
* if your apples are too tart for your taste you can sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar onto the apples*
Preheat oven to 375 degrees
Place apples into ungreased 8-inch square baking dish
Combine brown sugar, oats and cinnamon in a bowl; cut in butter with a fork or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Sprinkle oatmeal/butter mixture over apples.
Bake 25-35 minutes or until apples are tender and topping is golden brown.
Serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.
